Using the Command key
to find the path of your folder |
| |
By Command-clicking on a window’s title bar and you'll get a pop-up menu that shows the hierarchical path to the root level of the drive that the folder is on. Not only is this great way to quickly see where a folder resides on your computer, it’s also great way to quickly navigate UP the folder hierarchy. If you want to quickly navigate DOWN the folder hierarchy then you'll want to be in column view in OS X or use one of the many shareware utilities that provide this function. |

Using the Option key
when closing & opening finder windows |
| |
Do you find yourself having too many finder windows open at once? Do you find it tedious clicking on one close button after another to close them all? If so, here are some simple solutions.
Option-clicking on a window's close button will automatically close all the desktop windows. You could also use the keyboard combination Option-Command-W to accomplish the same result. To avoid creating the desktop clutter in the first place, hold down the Option Key when opening a folder to automatically close the enclosing folder. These shortcuts will work in OS X, OS 9 and earlier versions of the OS. |

The Slow-Motion Dock Trick |
| |
If you’ve witnessed just about any demo of Mac OS X, you’ve seen the minimize-in-slo-mo trick in which a window is ever so slowly sucked into the Dock. To perform this same trick with your copy of Mac OS X, just hold down the Shift key while clicking a window’s Minimize button. |
